So, what is Assistive Technology (AT)?
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to any device, software, or equipment that helps people with disabilities work around their challenges. It can support learning, communication, movement, and daily tasks—at school, at work, or at home.
AT can be:

High-tech (like speech-generating devices or screen readers)
Two Parts: Devices and Services
Assistive Technology includes more than just the tools—it also includes the services that help people choose, learn, and use them effectively.
That might mean fitting a child with adaptive utensils so they can eat independently, or helping an adult use a voice-output device to communicate with others.
