How Do I apply to Ability Found for myself?
- You can receive help through an application submitted on your behalf by a Professional Service Provider. Ability Found does not accept applications directly from individuals. Working with a Professional Service Provider ensures that the mobility equipment you receive is most suitable for your needs.
- A Professional Service Provider is typically a physical, occupational, or speech therapist with extensive knowledge of the equipment you require. They should also be familiar with your specific diagnoses and the environment where the equipment will be used. Professional Service Providers can also include medical vendors, case managers, social workers, nurses, and physicians who are interested in donating their expertise.
- Please start by discussing your specific needs with your Professional Service Provider and have them apply to Ability Found on your behalf. All equipment is donated under our Terms and Conditions, with the understanding that the Professional Service Provider will ensure proper fitting and training to help you use the equipment safely and effectively.
How are the review fees determined?
- Ability Found obtains mobility equipment through generous donations from individuals and organizations, which help us purchase new equipment and parts. We also acquire equipment through both new and used in-kind donations. This equipment is then adapted for use by others.
- We dedicate significant time and effort to finding mobility equipment that meets your specific needs. To support this process, we may charge a low-cost fee that reflects the resources used to acquire and adapt the equipment that best suits you.

Does Ability Found Perform Equipment Repairs?
Ability Found specializes in providing new and gently used mobility and adaptive equipment. We have found that it is not the best use of our essential donation dollars to repair broken equipment. In most cases, replacing broken equipment is more cost-effective than spending our resources and man-hours on repairs.
Are there fees or charges associated with the mobility equipment provided by Ability Found?
- Ability Found obtains mobility equipment through generous donations from individuals and organizations, which help us purchase new equipment and parts. We also acquire equipment through both new and used in-kind donations, which are then adapted for use by others. We dedicate significant time and effort to finding mobility equipment that meets your needs. To support this process, we may charge a low-cost fee that reflects the resources required to meet your equipment needs.
- Once a project is approved, the Professional Service Provider is alerted to any additional costs that might be associated with preparing the equipment for client use. For example, Ability Found may have a power wheelchair worth thousands of dollars but requiring new batteries. In such cases, we may request a contribution from the client to cover the cost of the new batteries, which are categorized as placement fees.
- Another example of a placement fee occurs when Ability Found is asked to ship a piece of equipment to a destination within the United States. The client and Service Provider are notified of the shipping costs, and Ability Found will request a contribution from the client to cover those shipping or freight expenses.
